Soowon Seo was born in Seoul, Korea and started studying piano at the age of 5. She majored in performance at Yewon Art Middle School, one of the leading art schools in Korea, and continued specializing in piano performance at Seoul Art High School. Soowon decided to pursue a career in music, earning a Bachelors degree at Yonsei University in Seoul as a Piano Performance major. Additionally, as a Performance & Pedagogy major at Northwestern University, Soowon earned a Masters degree in Music under the guidance of James Giles and Marcia Bosits.

Soowon has participated in master classes with Tomer Lev, Ian Jonesand, and a number of well-known pianists in Korea. She has also attended the International Summer Festival Seeheim-Jugenheim in Germany, and has performed in the Seoul Spring Chamber Music Festival for 2 years.

Aside from her extensive solo career, she thoroughly enjoys working with children, teaching private lessons and accompanying both singers and instrumentalists. Besides Terra Sounds, Soowon is on the piano faculty of the Music Academy of Chicago, teaches group keyboard classes at Lubavitch Girls High School, and plays for Chicago Children's Choir at Rogers Park and Humboldt park districts.
